There are many doctors in St Girons, generally opened Monday to Friday 9:00 until 19:00. Out of office hours, you can:

- Contact 05 61 05 40 15 to have a doctor come to you, in case you can't drive or be driven.
Pharmacists - Out of office hours
There are many pharmacists in St Girons, generally opened Monday to Friday 8:30 until 19:00 and Saturday mornings until 12:30. Out of office hours, you need to call 32 37 to find out which pharmacy is open.

Le Cazalou - Pouech
Our local cheese farm. Go through the Pouech hamlet, until you see a sign for 'Fromage'. They also sell eggs and milk when available.
Fromagerie Le Moulis - Luzenac
Lovely local cheese shop with a great variety. Next to the Luzenac church.
Fromagerie Jean Faup - Caumont
Great variety of local cheeses, including Bethmale. You can visit the factory (Monday to Fridays at 10:00), book on 05 61 66 01 63.
Croustades
Traditional dessert of the area, served in the olden days during the yearly village fete and at family gatherings. It is a bit like an apple pie, although using the fruit in season at the time. The blueberry (myrtilles) croustade is a great one to try.

Safety
IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNINGS:
- DO NOT empty any hot or cold ashes into the waste bin
- DO NOT use the vacuum cleaner to clean the ashes of the fire
- Absolutely NO SMOKING in the house
Safety Equipment Location:

- Fire extinguisher is in the kitchen cabinet nearest to the fire
- Smoke alarms are installed on both floors of the house
Lighting the fire

- Open the door
- Open the air vent
- Open the damper
- Pull open the drawer 1cm
- Screw up newspaper into balls and place in centre of fire
- Lay small twigs (kindling) onto newspaper
- Lay larger sticks onto small sticks
- Lay one medium log on top
- Light base of newspaper
- Close door securely
Heating the house
- Once the fire is going well:
- Close the drawer
- Close the damper
- Close the door securely
- Switch the heating switch to the up position to enable the air pump
- Adjust heat in each room as desired by turning the white circular vents open or closed
- Open the air vents to burn hotter
- Close the air vents to burn cooler
Overnight
- Ensure the fire is going well and hot embers are present
- Put on larger log(s)
- Close the door securely
- Close the air vents tightly
- Close the damper
- Switch the heating switch to the up position to heat the house
- Switch the heating switch to the middle position (off) if the bedrooms are too hot
Cleaning
It is important to clean out ashes each day to prevent build up and the fire being difficult to light and keep going.
- Ensure the fire is out or only a few hot embers remain
- Open the door
- Sweep the ashes in the fire down the grate into the drawer
- Hot embers can be kept in the fire
- Get the ash bucket from the nearby kitchen cabinet
- Pull out the ash drawer and careful empty into the ash bucket
- If there is lots of ash use the ash shovel to remove excess from the fire and put into the ash bucket
WARNING:
DO NOT EMPTY ANY HOT OR COLD ASHES INTO THE WASTE BIN
DO NOT USE THE VACUUM CLEANER TO CLEAN THE ASHES OF THE FIRE
The ash bucket should be emptied into the metal bin provided in the wood store accessible through the laundry room.
Clean the fire glass with kitchen roll using the product provided in the kitchen cabinet, or newspaper and a little water.
